ARIIA works with the aged care sector in building and supporting workforce capability. One of the ways we do that is to connect the workforce to evidence and resources on topics which are seen as priorities in aged care.
The survey that ARIIA carried out earlier this year identified topics of need or concern within the sector including “Palliative Care and End of Life” and “Meaningful Lifestyle Activities”. Providing evidence and information rich resources will help the workforce to find evidence-based approaches to care and practice and resources that can be used in the workplace.
Australian aged care residents can spend over 45 per cent of their day sitting alone in their rooms, often engaging in limited social interactions and very little activity. The Meaningful Lifestyle Activities section includes a scoping study and related themes, an environmental scan and associated resources as well as information on Australian research studies and projects. The Palliative Care and End of Life topic pages currently has three evidence themes from a scoping review and over 60 resources identified during an environmental scan. There is also information on the national palliative care projects and initiatives.
These two new topics have just been released into the Knowledge and Implementation Hub. You can read the evidence for all our Aged Care Topics or find a resource that is relevant to your setting and scope of practice. We also welcome feedback and additions to our resources so please get in touch with us at kih@ariia.org.au
