The University of Canberra in partnership with Valleyview of Riverview Residence Collie Inc and Humanetix Pty Ltd has been awarded an ARIIA grant for their project ‘Implementation and evaluation of a digital alert feedback system to support residential aged care staff to enhance quality of care’.
Nationally, aged care is in a state of crisis. Maximising the best use of resources will improve efficiency and effectiveness of care work and staff satisfaction. As the regulatory requirements for data collection in aged care continue to increase, impacting on staff time with residents, it is essential that the data collected also support quality of resident care. Making the right data critical for providing care and services available to the right people at the right time is a key area for development in this sector.
The project aim is to develop and test a digital alert system that draws data from existing collections to support staff, enhance quality of care, improve resident’s health outcomes and reduce adverse events. This project will create an Aged Care Electronic Data & Information Tool (ACEDIT) that pulls data from multiple sources, streams data into classifications of “Critical, Urgent, Non-Urgent and Nice to Know”, triggers escalation pathways, ensures the right people are notified at the right time, is easy to use for all aged care staff, supports constructive and person focussed decision-making, and enables compliance checking and a feedback loop of data usage.
